Dalron Chocolate Pumpkin pie
Long ago, right after the final feudal war ended to unite the kingdom
of Dalron there was a coupe. The king's half brother gathered enough power
to take the central castle and did so in one night. His men killed off
the royal family except the eldest daughter, who the cook had snuck out
of the castle. Yes the loyal cook carefully snuck her out of the castle
on that fateful night. He raised her as if she where his own child for
he had none of his own. They traveled around in a small food wagon so
that the new king would have difficulty finding her. After a few years
the search was ended but the cook and his wife still did not settle down
anywhere, instead preferring the open road. When she turned eighteen her
adopted parents told her of her heritage. She decided to get married and
if she had a son he could try to take back the country. Fate took a cruel
hand with destiny so that young princess only bore girls. So she told
the story to her eldest daughter when she turned eighteen, and the daughter
followed the same path. This is how things went for generations, each
eldest daughter would only have a daughter, each inheriting the food cart
and traveling around what they thought of as their country, looking after
it as best they could. Many commoners came to call the food cart the Princess
of the Road.
More generations than can be counted have passed since this all occurred,
the Princess of the Road still travels from town fair to town fair much
like the Pahnters. It is now run by Leanah the direct female descendant
of the original princess. Leanah is a stubborn one, very bright and an
excellent cook. When the trade route to the east was established over
the sea and chocolate was being traded and much sought after this recipe
was made. While setting up her cart at a fair in Drent's Cape, she overheard
two men talking;
"Yes I agree that pumpkin pie is the king of pies, and that
chocolate is the most lovely thing to happen in a hundred years,
but I just don't see how anyone could combine them."
Overhearing this was the incentive Leanah needed to make one pie that
people would pay a fortune for. It was not easy and I admit to being her
test subject for many an awful failure. But, with each try it got better,
and sure enough she did it. She told me the recipe and made me swear that
it would remain a secret until she died. I kept that promise and miss
her more then anyone I have had the good fortune to know. It is hard to
live so much longer then others. I would not wish this on anyone even
though I know some others would do anything to become like me. It is far
better to live on in a book than just live on.
