Jumping River Grilled Chicken Legs
The city of Quimpor is the oldest kingdom on the continent of Hebsalin. It is a simple city state that fights the occasional war over lands disputed for time beyond memory. Over the long history of the kingdom the same lands have been lost and won countless times. The only place not fought over and excluded from all the nearby kingdoms is the Stone Wood Forest. The forest has a large population of BearLins. Each BearLin is at least twice as strong as a human and are the only ones capable of felling the mighty Stone Wood Trees.
The Stone Wood lumber is the most prized export in all of Hebsalin, and considered the most valuable lumber in the world. The wood is so dense that they say it will not burn and so hard that only the most skilled people can cut it. Rumor has it that the inner hull of the Sea Dryad is made of Stone Wood and that is why it is unsinkable. The Stone Wood Forest being separate but linked to Quimpor is much like the city its self. An outsider would view it as two cities. The sprawling estates and mansions on the slope of the mountain above the harbor contrast sharply with the cramped and crowded port side area. The two are divided by a wide river gorge that is only crossed by one bridge. That bridge is very busy since all the servants at the various estates live in the lower city.
In the spring the snow caps melt and flow down the gorge to the sea. This influx of water creates some of the most dangerous rapids in all of Tamlin and gives the Jumping River its name. One day a year is set aside for a festival to watch anyone crazy enough to try to navigate the rapids. I was lucky enough to be there one year and had the most wonderful grilled chicken legs.
